The Verdant
Verdant Angle Press was established in the May of 2020 as a vehicle for delivering the unique visions of the writer and novelist I. B. Hippe. It is of present the work of but one man–an experiment to see just how far he can take things doing everything himself from the ground up. That means editing, graphic design, public relations, you name it.
We are a publication based on honesty, transparency, and freedom. We are here to learn through doing (prolifically) and garner valuable experience (that’s the Verdant). We are setting out to spark a revolution of the written word; to do what has never been done before or, at least, to do it differently. With no overbearing, “learned” hand to guide us, we will birth a truly unique experience through our fictional creations.
The Angle
Our highest held belief is that Imagination should never be impeded. We have nothing if not the freedom to think and wonder and create.
The powers to tell, to create, to fabricate, and at times orchestrate, are among humanity’s greatest. As with all powers, they can be used for Good or for Evil or for the myriad shades in between.
Conveniently for us, our powers tend to operate in the creative sandboxes we call “books,” though sand is known to sometimes spill out of its containers and everyone knows how long it takes to fully cleanse one’s self after even just one trip to the Beach.
The Press
Freedom – May there be no limits to the conjurings of the Imagination and that the wizard of his (her) worlds be free to summon, explore, and venture where he (she) sees fit.
Originality – They say that true originality is one in a million, that most of what we think we create is but a reproduction of things we’re seen or heard or read elsewhere. They also say that people are comforted by the expected, unoriginal, and known. That being said, originality can be found not only in content, but in approach, implementation, and presentation. If the audience is unsettled or upset or puzzled by something, that might very well be a sign that the creator is onto something novel.
Responsibility – With freedom and power comes responsibility. It’s not so much a warning that one shouldn’t, so much as a caution that it’s one’s shoe to wear if he or she should.
Courage – To have the pluck to explore depths dark and unplumbed, to gamble and invent at the risk of embarrassment and failure and utter catastrophe.
Evolution – To remain static is to sink. We must grow and change to stay fit in the cutthroat battle for the ever-fracturing currency of Attention. We are here to build something new, not do what has already been done before.
